Earth Cry

oil on canvas
w30"x h34"

This painting is an honest result of following the directions that my color and design instincts were making for me as I went. It was sort of a ride into uncharted territory. I started out with an overall composition in mind, but without predetermining details or the final shape relationships. Nor was the color scheme decided in advance. Abstract painting offers itself to this open-ended approach. It is a pleasure to occasionally break away from realism. A lot can be learned by going inside for ideas. The freedom to explore new and creative visual imaginations can be exhilarating if you truly let go. You must be willing to risk failure as you go deeper, but the destination cannot be reached without abandoning the familiar. Getting lost to find home. Years back I realized what is a rather obvious truth: A painting is about paint. At least as much as it is about concept or subject, design or details. In all my journeys to famous museums I noticed that most of the great paintings all have plenty of paint on the surface. Now I apply much more paint and a lot more colors than before.

Would you like to see this painting available as a giclée?
